Guided Kayak Tours

Here’s your chance to take in some of the most breathtaking scenery of the Niagara River.  Join one of our experienced tour guides as you paddle your kayak through marshes and around islands that played a pivotal role in the settlement of the Niagara Frontier. See the boyhood home of former U.S. President Grover Cleveland on Grand Island and check out the nesting Herons and Egrets on nearby Motor Island.  Land your kayak at Strawberry Island for a brief respite and lounge on a beach of glacially flattened pebbles that were deposited thousands of years ago at the end of the Wisconsin Ice Age.

Highlights

  • Guided kayak tour of the marshes and islands of the upper Niagara River

  • Individual or tandem sit-on or sit-in kayaks included along with paddles and required safety equipment.

  • Tours are led by an expert guide well versed in Niagara River history and ecology.

What You Can Expect

After meeting your guide you will be briefed on the day’s trip and the potential highlights.  Please note that as the season progresses, each trip will be different depending on the growth rate of native plants and the seasonal migration patterns of wildlife.
You will be given a choice of either a single or tandem kayak that can be adjusted to fit you comfortably. All paddlers will be required to wear a lifejacket equipped with a whistle while out on the river.  Each paddler should dress for the conditions encountered and should be prepared to get wet at times. Early in the season the water can be cold. Sunscreen and wide brim hats are strongly recommended.
Paddlers will pass through the restored East River Marsh at Beaver Island State Park continuing on to historic River Lea the boyhood home of former President Grover Cleveland. From River Lea paddlers cross the Niagara River for a look at Motor Island that is home to hundreds of nesting Great Blue Herons and Common Egrets. The last stop is Strawberry Island where Bald Eagles are often observed.  There will be a brief stop at a nearby beach for a water and snack break before proceeding back to the original launching point.
